Tanzanite is the most intriguing of all the gemstones dealt at AGT and the most widely known zoisite. Tanzanite in its raw form comes in about seven different color variations ranging from Blue to purple violet, lilac, brownish amongst others in their raw form… When treated each Tanzanite piece turns blue. The gemstone is only mined in Tanzania globally; around the small town of Mirerani about 40 km from Arusha along the Mozambique belt. The limited reserve of this gemstones and the prospect of the stone’s availability becoming scarce in the near future is certain to cause the stone to progress sooner or later to the most sought after and rarest gemstone. Tanzanite mining is expected to continue only about 2 more decades at most; before the reserve is depleted.
Mirerani is the most active colored gemstone mining area, producing tanzanite and green garnets and many other gemstones formed along the Mozambique belt.
